Kaye Pedalers

In keeping with the need to introduce fitness products for children with special needs, KAYE Products is offering the Pedalers in three challenging models.

The Pedalers utilize the principle of a split axle to create forward or backward motion while encouraging the child to coordinate weight shift, side-to-side and forward to back. These products allow the users to control timing of reciprocal inter-limb movements which are needed for walking.

The Posture Pedaler, model PD4, with its horizontal or parallel bars, is particularly appropriate for a child who cannot walk without external support. The hand placement and postural alignment is similar those used by the KAYE Posture Control Walker and is an easy transition for many children.

The Pole Pedaler, model PD2, with its parallel upright poles, requires better postural control. The child can use the poles for balance, but not weight bearing, and must be able to initiate weight shift through the lower extremities. Both of these products have foot guards that help keep the feet placed on the bases.

The adjustable toe stop assists in positioning the child on the Pedaler. This feature is primarily important for children who tend to adduct or internally rotate their hips and therefore cannot keep their feet well aligned when stepping.

A third model, The Balance Pedaler, model PD1, is designed for more able-bodied users. Distractible children find that they are challenged by the high level of balance and coordination required by this model.
